The establishment of Brunei Darussalam’s National Education Council was decreed by His Majesty the Sultan during the 9th National Teacher’s Day Celebration on 23rd September 1999, whereby the function of the Council was to assist and make recommendations to the Ministry on any matter of educational policy and development, as stated in the Education Act 2011, Chapter 210, Part III.
On 22nd November 1999, the National Education Council agreed to the formation of the Secretariat of the National Education Council.
The Secretariat also serves to support the implementation of the Ministry of Education’s Strategic Plan 2023-2027 as a Cross-Cutting Enabler for Effective Governance and Policies.

Supporting the office of the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Corporate) on the coordination of a systematic education policy amendment process.

Functions |
a.
Management of Brunei Darussalam's National Education Council Meetings: - To coordinate the preparation and implementation of the National Education Council meetings, including the preparation of agendas, talking points for the Chairman of Brunei Darussalam's National Education Council, meeting presentation slides, and logistics.
- To conduct discussions with Executives and Departments in the preparation of working papers.
- To provide and review working papers, presentation slides, and talking points.
- Monitor the status of implementation of meeting agendas and follow-up actions for matters brought up during previous Council meetings.
- Manage the nomination process of the Council members.
- To provide reference materials and services on agendas and decisions made by the National Education Council.
b.
Others: - Prepare and implement the Secretariat's Strategic Planning and monitoring the KPI status of the Secretariat's initiatives.
- Conduct Socialisation Session to Departments.
- Provide clinic services to assist Departments in identifying and tackling policy gaps, if needed.
- Provide consultation services for the preparation of working papers on amending policies.

Work on administrative and other tasks as instructed.
