The 3rd ASEAN Eco-Schools Award 2019

Brunei Muara, Sunday, 06 October 2019 - Two government schools namely Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Abu Bakar and Sekolah Rendah Muda Hashim have championed in this year’s search of eco-schools. The nomination and selection of the two schools (one primary and one secondary) as national recipients of the 3rd ASEAN Eco-Schools Award 2019 was steered through the Ministry of Education through Science, Technology and Environment Partnership Centre (STEP Centre). The Department of Environment, Park and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development as the national focal point for Negara Brunei Darussalam in the ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE) has coordinated the two recognised eco schools’ nominations to receiving the award.

The selections of eco-school’s awardees were based on their excellence in promoting green and environmental awareness in their schools and communities. The award ceremony will be held in Cambodia, and organised by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Cambodia in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat on the 7-8 October 2019. The award aims to recognise exemplary efforts of eco-schools in ASEAN Member States (AMS) in inculcating environmental awareness in every aspect of education to their students and surrounding communities. 

The ASEAN Eco-Schools Award is held once in every four years. This year the ceremony is back-to-back with the celebration of the ASEAN Environment Year as the side-Iines of the 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME). 

The award will be received by the school’s representatives, Hjh Junaidah binti Awg Haji Tajudin (deputy principal of Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School) and Nur Mazirazuze binti Mazlan (education officer of the Muda Hashim Secondary School). In addition to attending the award ceremony, the participants will have the opportunities to visit eco-schools in Cambodia, attend seminars, plenary sessions, group discussion and networking with participants from other AMS. Upon returning home, the teachers will share their experiences as a practice to expose more green and eco-friendly practises among peers in their schools.

Brunei Muara, Ahad, 06 Oktober 2019 - Dua buah sekolah Kerajaan iaitu Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Abu Bakar dan Sekolah Rendah Muda Hashim telah terpilih bagi penerimaan ANUGERAH ASEAN ECO-SCHOOLS 2019 KALI KE-3. Pemilihan dan penilaian sekolah-sekolah yang tercalon telahpun diselaraskan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan melalui Pusat Kerjasama Sains, Teknologi dan Alam Sekitar (Pusat STEP); manakala, Jabatan Alam Sekitar, Taman dan Rekreasi, Kementerian Pembangunan adalah selaku focal point bagi Negara Brunei Darussalam di ASEAN Working Group on Environmental Education (AWGEE). 

Majlis penganugerahan akan diadakan oleh The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Cambodia dengan kerjasama ASEAN Secretariat selaku penganjur mulai 7 hingga 8 Oktober 2019. Sekolah-sekolah yang terpilih adalah berdasarkan kecemerlangan mereka dalam melaksanakan pelbagai aktiviti-aktiviti hijau secara sustainable. ASEAN Eco-School Award bertujuan untuk memberikan pengiktirafan kepada sekolah-sekolah yang membudayakan amalan-amalan terbaik dalam eco-school program, dan seterusnya menggalakkan penglibatan sekolah-sekolah lain di seluruh Negara untuk menjalankan inisiatif-inisiatif hijau di sekolah masing-masing. 

Penganugerahan ASEAN Eco-Schools Award lazimnya diadakan empat tahun sekali, yang mana pada tahun ini diselajurkan dengan majlis meraikan ASEAN Environment Year sebagai salah satu program di bawah 15th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment (AMME). 

Penerima-penerima anugerah adalah merupakan wakil dari sekolah-sekolah yang terpilih, iaitu Dyg Hjh Junaidah binti Awang Haji Tajudin (Timbalan Pengetua Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Abu Bakar) dan Dyg Nur Mazirazuze binti Mazlan (Pegawai Pendidikan selaku pegawai Penyelaras Projek, Sekolah Rendah Muda Hashim, Tutong). Antara aktiviti yang akan diikuti oleh pegawai-pegawai berkenaan adalah termasuk membuat lawatan ke Eco-schools di Kemboja, menghadiri seminar, plenary sessions, perbincangan kumpulan dan berpeluang untuk berinteraksi sesama wakil peserta Eco-Schools dari sekolah-sekolah Negara ASEAN yang lainnya.
