Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme (BEES) Second Chapter Convention

The Convention for Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme (BEES) Second Chapter is held today at Manggis Ballroom, Hua Ho Manggis Mall. This year's convention is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd, and Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Present as the Guest of Honour to grace today's event is Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary of Core Education, Ministry of Education.

This morning event started with a welcoming address by the Chairperson, Yang Mulia Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Mohd Yusuf, Acting Director of Department of Curriculum Development. In this event, the six top schools competed to be the champion in the final pitching competition of BEES Second Chapter programme 2018.

BEES Second Chapter is an upgraded programme designed to instil, develop and stimulate enterprising attitudes and skills among students in the secondary schools through a systematic approach by focusing on three key elements of entrepreneurial success namely entrepreneurial mindset, pragmatic knowledge with application, and creating entrepreneurial students that are resourceful and sustainable. To ensure these newly acquired goals are sustainable, BEES Second Chapter focuses on nurturing entrepreneurial mindset of the participants by forming a three year (2016-2018) strategic-based thematic programme namely 2016 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Pitching”, 2017 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Innovation” and 2018 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Sustainability”.

A total number of 15 schools participated in this year’s BEES Second Chapter programme; 10 from government secondary schools, 4 from non-government secondary schools and 1 from an Arabic secondary school. The programme is open to students of secondary school from year 9 and year 10, not only of Accounting and Business subjects but also from different subject fields such as Sciences, Mathematics, Design and Technology, Arabic Language and other subjects. This is to inculcate interdisciplinary knowledge and to produce both creative and innovative products and services.

This year’s ‘sustainability-themed’ competition is judged based on the following criteria: clarity, pitching skills, creative and innovative, market potentials, and sustainability.

BEES Second Chapter Programme is first introduced in 2016, where a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between The Ministry of Education, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd. and Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

BEES Second Chapter is coordinated by the Core Education team of Entrepreneurship Village (EV), Universiti Brunei Darussalam and in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education. EV is the entrepreneurship platform under Universiti Brunei Darussalam that spearheads the National Entrepreneurship Agenda (NEA) which was established in February 2014 initiated by the Ministry of Education.

EV aimed to inspire and empower the younger generation to pursue their dreams by inculcating entrepreneurial thinking (mindset), thus, enhance creativity and innovative-thinkers among the students either in education or lifestyle. This aim is aligned with the objectives of BEES Second Chapter.

The BEES program is financially supported by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd in its objectives to develop a better younger generation (through the platform of education) with an entrepreneurial mindset that are ready to support Brunei’s economic development through their entrepreneurial, self-sufficient and independent nature and capabilities from an early age.

Majlis Konvensyen Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme (BEES), 2.0 2018 berlangsung hari ini di Manggis Ballroom, Hua Ho Manggis Mall. Majlis ini adalah anjuran bersama Kementerian Pendidikan, Syarikat Minyak Shell Brunei Sdn. Bhd dan Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Tetamu kehormat pada majlis tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras) Kementerian Pendidikan yang seterusnya merasmikan konvensyen tersebut.

Acara pada pagi ini dimulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada Pemangku Pengarah, Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum, Awang Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Md Yusuf selaku pengerusi majlis. Pada majlis ini, sebanyak enam buah sekolah telah melayakkan diri dalam pertandingan pusingan akhir Program BEES 2.0 2018.

BEES 2.0 merupakan program yang bertujuan untuk memupuk, meningkatkan pemikiran dan kemahiran keusahawanan di kalangan pelajar di peringkat menengah menggunakan pendekatan sistematik memfokuskan kepada tiga elemen penting iaitu minda keusahawanan, pengetahuan keusahawanan yang pragmatik dalam menanai inovasi dan daya kemampanan. Dalam usaha mencapai matlamat ini, tumpuan lebih kepada menyemai minda keusahawanan. Para peserta dikehendaki membentuk program yang strategik berdasarkan tema-tema yang telah disediakan setiap tahun iaitu pada tahun 2016 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Pitching”, 2017 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Innovation” dan 2018 “Entrepreneurial Mindset on Sustainability”.

Sebanyak 15 buah sekolah telah menyertai Program BEES 2.0 tahun 2018 yang terdiri daripada 10 buah sekolah kerajaan, 4 buah sekolah swasta dan 1 buah sekolah menengah Arab. Program ini dibukakan kepada penuntut-penuntut tahun 9 dan 10. Selain daripada penuntut-penuntut dalam bidang perakaunan dan perdagangan, pertandingan ini juga dibukakan kepada penuntut-penuntut daripada pelbagai bidang seperti Sains, Matematik, Design and Technology, Bahasa Arab dan bidang-bidang lain. Ini bertujuan bagi menggalakkan ekosistem daripada pelbagai bidang subjek dan memupuk pengetahuan interdisciplinary bagi melahirkan idea-idea, produk dan perkhidmatan yang lebih kreatif dan inovatif.

Penghakiman dalam pertandingan ini dinilai berdasarkan empat kriteria iaitu kreatif dan inovasi, penjelasan, potensi pemasaran dan kelebihan daya saing serta kemahiran dalam keyakinan diri.

Brunei Entrepreneurship Education Scheme 2.0 mula diperkenalkan pada tahun 2016 dengan termeterainya Penandatanganan Memorandum Persefahaman antara Kementerian Pendidikan, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn. Bhd dan Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Program BEES 2.0 diselaraskan oleh Entrepreneurship Village (EV) dan Universiti Brunei Darussalam bahagian Pendidikan Teras dan bekerjasama dengan Jabatan Perkembangan Kurikulum. Entrepreneurship Village ditubuhkan pada Februari 2014 dan diterajui oleh Agenda Keusahawanan Kebangsaan (National Entrepreneurship Agenda) dan inisiatif oleh Kementerian Pendidikan.

Matlamat utama EV ditubuhkan adalah sebagai pelengkap kepada Program BEES 2.0. Ia bertujuan untuk memberi inspirasi kepada generasi muda untuk berdikari dan mampu menguruskan atau menghasilkan keperluan sendiri bagi mengejar impian mereka melalui penerapan minda keusahawanan, di samping memupuk kemahiran teras, kreativiti dan keupayaan minda yang inovatif.

Program ini ditaja oleh Syarikat Minyak Brunei Shell Sdn Bhd dengan objektif pembangunan generasi muda (melalui platform pendidikan) berminda keusahawanan untuk menyokong pembangunan ekonomi Brunei dengan keupayaan dan kemahiran keusahawanan dan sifat berdikari dari peringkat awal lagi.
