New Qualification Programme introduced at Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE)

iSkill™ is a new qualification programme that has been developed with close collaboration between the relevant industry with the support of the Manpower Industry Steering Committee Working Group (Energy) together with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE).  The programme has undertaken a rigorous process to match and aligned our industry requirement and expectations for our local workforce.  This includes potential opportunities in developing a pathway towards a professional career in the relevant skill pools.  iSkill modules in the programme have also been mapped to recognised international standards.  iSkills has been developed to serve the industry needs with opening opportunities specifically for our local participation in mind to achieve greater occupational skill levels in support for Wawasan Brunei 2035. 

There are five (5) iSkillprogrammes that are already in place and ready to be implemented this year and early next year.  The programmes are iSkills™ NTec in Welding, iSkill™ ISQ in Scaffolder, iSkillISQ in Rigger, iSkill™ ISQ in Blaster Painter and iSkill™ ISQ in Marker/Pipe Fitter.

The first programme to be embarked will be iSkill™ NTec in Welding (Oil & Gas), which is a two-year programme to be conducted at IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus, Seria. The programme is expected to start in August 2020. This programme will provide knowledge and skills in welding processes and techniques relevant to the current industries which lead to become a qualified welder for oil and gas industry. 

This iSkill™ NTec in Welding is open to local and permanent residents of Brunei with minimum entry requirements of 2 GCE O-Level (or equivalent) passes in mathematics and any English medium subject, that are keen in seeking to start a professional skills career in the industry sector.

For those applicants interested to undertake the iSkill™ NTec in Welding in August 2020, the registration is open from 9 June until 22 June 2020. Interested in applicants have to register online via TVECAS (

The rest of the four iSkill™ programmes are anticipated to be conducted in January 2021 at IBTE Mechanical Campus, Tungku.

In the near future, the iSkills™ programmes to be rolled to other industries and beyond the oil and gas sectors.
