Seameo Ministerial Policy E-Forum On COVID-19 Response

​The Honourable Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education attended the South East Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) E-Forum on COVID-19 Response which carries the theme Education in Post-COVID-19 World today.

The online forum was co-hosted by His Excellency Dr Mohd. Radzi bin Md. Jidin, Senior Minister of Education Malaysia as SEAMEO Council President and the SEAMEO Secretariat. The inaugural e-forum was attended by education ministers from ten (10) SEAMEO member countries. This SEAMEO Ministerial Policy e-Forum serves as a platform for the Ministers to discuss and share their countries responses towards COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

During the virtual forum, The Honourable Minister Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah in his statement among others shared about the immediate coping and continuing responses taken by Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam during the pandemic which focuses on four (04) main target groups, which are students, teachers & school leaders, parents and other stakeholders. Provision of supports and assistance are centred around familiarising the groups with new ways of teaching and learning, technical supports, social distancing and hygiene, capacity building, welfare and socio-emotional support. The Honourable Minister of Education also shared about the assistance extended in supporting student in needs especially in providing them with the infrastructure in ensuring equal accessibility to education during this challenging time. The Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat ended the forum with a synthesis on the discussions and the proposal for a Joint Ministerial Statement on the COVID-19 response. 

 

Also in attendance during the online forum was Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam and officials from the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Menteri Pendidikan pada hari ini telahpun menghadiri sesi forum secara dalam talian yang bertajuk South East Asia Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) E-Forum on COVID-19 Response yang membawa tema Education in Post-COVID-19 World.

 

E-forum yang pertama kali diadakan ini telah dihoskan bersama oleh Yang Berhormat Dr. Mohd Radzi bin Jidin, Menteri Kanan Pendidikan Malaysia selaku Presiden Majlis SEAMEO bersama Sekretariat SEAMEO. Forum tersebut menyaksikan kehadiran Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan dari sepuluh (10) negara anggota SEAMEO. Antara lain objektif forum ini diadakan adalah sebagai landasan perbincangan dan perkongsian di antara Menteri-Menteri Pendidikan di Asia Tenggara mengenai tindak balas negara masing-masing terhadap pandemik COVID-19 berkaitan dengan pendidikan, strategi untuk membentuk norma baharu dalam pendidikan serta peranan teknologi dan pembelajaran jarak jauh semasa COVID-19.

 

Semasa forum berkenaan, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah dalam kenyataannya mengongsikan mengenai tindak balas segera oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam semasa wabak tersebut yang memberi tumpuan kepada empat (04) kumpulan sasaran utama, iaitu pelajar, guru-guru & pemimpin sekolah, ibu bapa dan pihak berkepentingan yang lain. Sokongan dan bantuan terhadap kumpulan sasaran tersebut merangkumi garis panduan terhadap cara pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang baru, sokongan teknikal, penjarakan sosial dan kebersihan, peningkatan keupayaan dan kapasiti, kesejahteraan dan sokongan sosio-emosi. Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan juga menyentuh mengenai bantuan yang diberikan dalam menyokong pelajar yang kurang berkemampuan terutamanya dalam menyediakan infrastruktur dalam memastikan aksesibiliti yang saksama terhadap pendidikan pada masa yang mencabar ini. Pengarah Sekretariat SEAMEO mengakhiri forum tersebut dengan rumusan dan dapatan hasil perbincangan serta cadangan bagi Joint Ministerial Statement mengenai tindak balas semasa COVID-19.

 

Turut hadir semasa forum tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Kementerian Pendidikan Brunei Darussalam dan pegawai-pegawai dari Kementerian Pendidikan Brunei Darussalam.
