Minister of Education Attend Virtual Extraordinary Conference of Education Ministers of ICESCO Member States

Bandar Seri Begawan – Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as the Chairman of Brunei Darussalam's National Commission for the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) today attended the Virtual Extraordinary Conference of Education Ministers on Education Systems in the Face of Crises and Emergencies (COVID-19).

The virtual conference was organised by ICESCO based in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco and is attended by ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials from over 54 Member States and representatives of international organisations and observers. Among the objectives of this Virtual Extraordinary Conference are to coordinate Member States' efforts and drawing lessons from their current experiences to guarantee the right to education, propose the most adequate mechanisms that technology and artificial intelligence provide to ensure the right to education, and consolidate the analyses of the current educational situation in the Islamic world.

During the virtual conference, ICESCO Member States including Yang Berhormat Minister of Education had the opportunity to share details and information that include; successful efforts and lessons from their current experiences to guarantee education is practicable during the pandemic crisis; preparation of member states to ensure safe return to schools during the pandemic crisis; role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing education system; and unveiling of ICESCO's Comprehensive Humanitarian Coalition initiative and ways to support educational system. The conference later ends with a dialogue session.

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) was established by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in May 1979. As one of the major Islamic international organisations, it specialises in the field of education, sciences, cultures, communications and information. It was previously known as Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and has now been renamed ICESCO. The renaming took place during the 40th ISESCO Executive Council session on the 29 until 30 January 2020. To this date, ICESCO has 54 Member States and 3 observer states by which Brunei Darussalam became a member of ICESCO on 1st September 1985.

Also in attendance during the virtual conference were Yang Mulia, Dr Hj Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and Yang Mulia, Awang Walter Chong Meng Siong, Head of International Affairs Unit, Ministry of Education.

 


 PERSIDANG AGUNG SECARA MAYA MENTERI-MENTERI PENDIDIKAN DAN AHLI ICESCO

(SISTEM PENDIDIKAN DALAM MENANGANI KRISIS DAN KECEMASAN – COVID 19)

Bandar Seri Begawan – Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Menteri Pendidikan sebagai Presiden Suruhanjaya Kebangsaan Negara Brunei Darussalam bagi ICESCO hari ini  menghadiri Persidangan Agung secara maya bagi menteri-menteri pendidikan dan ahli-ahli ICESCO yang bertemakan Sistem Pendidikan dalam Menangani Krisis dan Kecemasan semasa COVID 19.

Persidangan maya ini dikendalikan oleh ICESCO di Rabat, Magribi dan dihadiri oleh menteri-menteri, timbalan menteri, pegawai-pegawai kanan dari lebih dari 54 ahli, wakil-wakil pertubuhan antarabangsa dan pemerhati. Antara objektif persidangan kali ini adalah untuk mejalankan usaha bagi menyediakan strategi yang sesuai dalam menangani pandemik. Pada masa yang sama ianya juga menyokong prinsip bagi memastikan adanya keseimbangan dalam pendidikan di samping menyediakan perlindungan bagi para pengajar dan pelajar.

Semasa sesi persidangan tersebut, ahli-ahli ICESCO termasuk Yang Berhormat Menteri Pendidikan telah berpeluang untuk mengongsikan pengalaman dan kejayaan negara dalam memastikan pendidikan senantiasa terjamin bagi tenaga pengajar dan pelajar-pelajar semasa krisis pandemik; penyediaan ahli-ahli ICESCO bagi memastikan keselamatan pegajaran dan pembelajaran kembali pulih semasa krisis pandemik; mengongsikan peranan teknologi dan artificial intelligence dalam memastikan kesimbangan dalam pendidikan; memperkenalkan dan menyokong inisiatif ICESCO iaitu Comprehensive Humanitarian Coalition dan diakhiri dengan sesi dialog.

Pertubuhan Pendidikan, Sains dan Kebudayaan Dunia Islam (ICESCO) sebelum ini dikenali sebagai Pertubuhan Pendidikan, Sains dan Kebudayaan Islam (ISESCO) telah ditubuhkan pada bulan Mei 1979 oleh Ogranisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). Perubahan nama bagi organisasi tersebut mengambil tempat semasa Majlis Eksekutif ISESCO sesi ke 40 yang berlangsung pada 29 higga 30 Januari 2020. Sebagai salah satu organisasi Islam antarabangsa terbesar, ia mengkhususkan diri dalam bidang pendidikan, sains, kebudayaan. Maklumat dan komunikasi. Pada masa ini terdapat lima-puluh empat (54) negara-negara ahli ICESCO dan tiga (3) negara pemerhati.

Antara yang turut hadir semasa sesi Persidangan dalam maya tersebut ialah Yang Mulia Dr Hj Azman bin Ahmad, Setiausaha Tetap (Pengajian Tinggi) dan Yang Mulia Awang Walter Chong Meng Siong, Ketua Unit Hal-Ehwal Antarabangsa, Kementerian Pendidikan.
