The 11th Joint Working Group Meeting between the Ministry of Education Brunei and Ministry of Education Singapore

A delegation led by the Permanent Secretary (Core Education) of the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam, Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, attended the 11th Joint Working Group between the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Education Singapore, held on the 1st to 2nd October 2018 in Singapore.

The annual meeting is usually held reciprocally between the two ministries and is co-chaired by both permanent secretaries. The main objectives of this meeting were to share current educational development in both countries, to exchange views and ideas in matters pertaining to education as well as to discuss possible new areas of educational cooperation.

Among matters shared by the Ministry of Education Singapore during the meeting were their new education initiatives which includes focus on authentic and applied learning as well the reducing of emphasis on school assessments. They also briefed the meeting on their school intervention and assessment policies.

The Ministry of Education Brunei delivered a presentation on the Centralised Assessment Unit (CAU) where the delegation shared about the monitoring and tracking of students' learning progress through the Student Assessment Tracker (SAT). Brunei delegation also briefed the meeting on the progress of the Literacy and Numeracy Coaching Programme (LNCP).

In addition, existing collaborations were reviewed and the progress of programmes as well as activities under the JWG initiatives were also reported at the meeting. These include the school twinning programmes between primary and secondary schools of both countries; the Malay Language Immersion Programme for Singapore Teachers and the Brunei-Singapore Student Leaders Adventure Camp

The delegation from the Ministry of Education Brunei Darussalam earlier also had a chance to visit the National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore where the Brunei delegation was briefed on the Initial Teacher Preparation Programme and Leaders in Education Programme.

Singapore also arranged a working visit to the Academy of Singapore Teachers and Hwa Chong International School as a conclusion of the JWG.

Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Bersama Ke – 11 di antara Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura Dalam Bidang Pendidikan

Delegasi Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam yang diketuai oleh Setiausaha Tetap (Pendidikan Teras), Yang Mulia Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, telahpun menghadiri Mesyuarat Kumpulan Kerja Bersama Ke- 11 di antara Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam dan Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura dalam Bidang Pendidikan yang diadakan pada 1 hingga 2 Oktober 2018 di Singapura.

Mesyuarat tahunan ini lazimnya diadakan secara bergilir di antara kedua-dua Kementerian dan dipengerusikan bersama oleh kedua-dua Setiausaha Tetap. Antara objektif utama mesyuarat berkenaan adalah untuk berkongsi perkembangan pendidikan terkini di kedua-dua negara, bertukar-tukar idea dan pandangan berkaitan pendidikan serta membincangkan mengenai peluang kerjasama yang baru.

Adapun antara perkara yang dikongsikan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura semasa mesyuarat berkenaan adalah inisiatif pendidikan terkini yang memberikan tumpuan kepada authentic and applied learning serta mengurangkan penekanan terhadap penilaian matapelajaran di sekolah. Delegasi Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura juga turut memberikan taklimat mengenai School Intervention and Assessment Policy.

Semasa mesyuarat tersebut, Kementerian Pendidikan Negara Brunei Darussalam telah pun mengongsikan mengenai Centralised Assessment Unit (CAU) yang bertujuan untuk memantau dan mengesan kemajuan pembelajaran pelajar melalui Student Assessment Tracker (SAT). Selain itu, delegasi Negara Brunei Darussalam juga memberikan taklimat mengenai mengenai perkembangan terkini mengenai Literacy and Numeracy Coaching Programme (LNCP).

Di samping itu, mesyuarat turut membincangkan kerjasama dan aktiviti serta program yang dijalankan oleh kedua-dua Kementerian seperti Brunei-Singapore School Twinning Programme, Singapore Teachers Malay Language Immersion Programme dan Brunei-Singapore Student Leaders Adventure Camp.

Seterusnya, delegasi Kementerian Pendidikan Brunei Darussalam berpeluang untuk mengadakan lawatan kerja ke National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore di mana dua taklimat khusus telah diberikan mengenai Initial Teacher Preparation Programme dan Leaders in Education Programme.

Kementerian Pendidikan Singapura juga turut mengaturkan lawatan kerja bagi delegasi Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Academy of Singapore Teachers dan Hwa Chong International School
